POLL: Should Prince Andrew be stopped from being a prince? | Royal | News

Prince Andrew has announced he is giving up his royal titles, including the Duke of York. The decision is understood to have been made in close consultation with King Charles and other members of the Royal Family, including Prince William.

He will also give up his knighthood as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) and his Garter role as a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. He will retain the dukedom, which can only be removed by an Act of Parliament, but will not use it.

Prince Andrew will also remain a prince, as the son of Queen Elizabeth II. However, there are calls for Andrew to stop using the Prince title.

But what do you think? Should Prince Andrew be stopped from being a prince? Vote in our poll and join the debate in the comments section. Can’t see the poll below? CLICK HERE.

Prince Andrew has been under increasing pressure over his links with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and has faced a series of scandals – in his statement he reiterates: “I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

Andrew has been under intense scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein, an American financier and convicted sex offender who ran a network that exploited and trafficked underage girls. He faced backlash over a civil sexual-assault court case brought in the U.S. by Virginia Giuffre, which was eventually settled.

The brother of the late Virginia Giuffre, the woman who alleged that Prince Andrew had sex with her at Ghislaine Maxwell’s house when she was 17, told BBC Newsnight that it was a “joyous moment” for survivors of Epstein after the decision to relinquish his titles.

His children Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will retain their titles, but his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will no longer be known as the Duchess of York.
