Huge Nintendo Switch 2 game delayed in ‘disaster’ decision | Gaming | Entertainment
Gamers will have to wait just a little bit longer to play Elden Ring on the Nintendo Switch 2 after FromSoftware announced it has been delayed until 2026. The port of the former Game of the Year winner was originally slated for release in 2025. Unfortunately, however, the Tokyo-based development studio cited “performance adjustments” as the driving factor behind the decision to delay the game.
It comes after reports emerged from Gamescom of the frame-rate allegedly dropping to a worrying 15 FPS in handheld mode. As the studio works to fix the issues, FromSoftware confirmed there will be “further announcements” once a new release date has been determined.
In an official statement, FromSoftware said: “Regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, which was scheduled for release in 2025, we have determined that additional time is required for game performance adjustments, and we will therefore be changing the release to 2026.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to all users who have been looking forward to the release of this title.
“We will continue to make adjustments to deliver it in the best possible form, so we kindly ask for your understanding. Thank you very much for your patience.”
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition combines the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and the Tarnished Pack, which is a collection of armour sets, weapons and starting classes.
The latter was also due to release on other platforms as paid DLC, but has followed suit in being delayed until next year.
Fans flooded social media with their reaction to the news, with one saying: “What a complete disaster. I am devastated!”
Another added: “This is definitely the right decision. Elden Ring is already coming very late to Switch 2, so you might as well make it the best version it can be.
“We’ve already seen very, very good Switch 2 ports. Elden Ring is so good, it deserves to be one of them.”
A third saw this as an opportunity to direct criticism at Nintendo, saying: “Switch 2 is nothing short of a disaster.
“Imagine waiting so long to build a new console that can’t run a low settings Elden Ring.”
